Embracing New Beginnings: A Day of Self-Care and Fun
It's hard to believe that winter has already come and gone again. But coming out of winter means warmer weather, more sunlight, and new beginnings. I've been feeling really hopeful lately, like I'm waking up again and doing more things that make me happy. Today, I'll be getting back out there, trying to take care of myself, get some work done, and do some fun things.
What's New with Me?
In the last few months, I've gotten into rock climbing—it's sort of a new personality trait of mine. So, I'll be doing some of that today. I also have plans to take myself out on a solo movie date tonight, which is a good way to start doing new things more independently. Special thanks to Ultrahuman for sending me their Ring Air to help me along this self-care journey.
Breakfast Time
I'm one of those people who eats breakfast pretty much every morning. I don't understand how others can skip it—my stomach would be gurgling out in public! Here's me cracking an egg and messing it up—hope you didn't see that. Nothing special, just eggs on toast, maybe a smoothie. I'm trying to get better at cooking, but you know, baby steps.
Ready for the Day
Now that I'm full and all packed up, I've got my rock climbing gear and my laptop. I'm ready for the day! [Music] This walk to the climbing gym is so long. I'm on the side of a bridge with cars passing by. I love it—so much! This is my warm-up. At least it's warm out today.
Rock Climbing Adventure
Welcome to bouldering! There's hardly anyone here today because, well, other people have real jobs. I start every session with a quick warm-up, mostly for my shoulders and hips. You can really wreck yourself if you're not careful. I'm acting like this is an extreme sport—it's not, at least not the way I do it. You spend 90% of the time sitting and watching others climb, and maybe 10% actually climbing. That's what makes it fun, right? It's a social sport.
After warming up, I get started on some easy climbs. This helps get the muscle groups active and prevents me from humbling myself too early in the session. Clearly, that doesn't last very long for me. I'd say rock climbing is a very beginner-friendly sport if you've ever wanted to try it. We all have that survival instinct of trying not to fall and die, and that gets you pretty far.
Another thing I love about this sport is that you don't always get things on the first try. It's a lot like life—you try, fumble, make a fool of yourself a little, and then try again. Here I am doing my little dance, can't quite get my foot up there. But you know what? You commit, you fail, and then you just try again.
Round two of this climb: got the start down, thinking about where the feet go. Good job! Now I know where the arm goes. Got the foot in place, a little more dance because I never got this far before. Didn't think this through, but you know, we send it and we get it. And that's it. Now it's time to humble myself big time. I just can't get past this one. We'll circle back; it's fine.
At this point, I go back to climbs I've done before to regain some confidence and remember that I can climb some things. Sometimes it's not the climbing that's difficult but solving the problem of where your arms and feet should go. Once someone unlocks it for you, it's pretty easy. Wow, I'm a climber again—oh, oh no.
Listen, sometimes you have to create your own path in life. Don't listen to the haters; just skip the start and get up there, then figure out a way to start while you're already on the route. It's not cheating. Once you're up there, you realize the rest isn't much easier, but you try. You push yourself on these tiny little toe chips you can barely see and get up there. Made it past the start, kind of, and then try to… you know what, I'm tired. That's next week's problem.
Lunch and Library Time
After climbing, I headed to the library. It was so packed because of a piano performance, so I'm outside hoping no one approaches me while I eat my lunch quickly. I have a webinar to attend soon, so I need to get inside. [Music] Is it too much to ask to be ignored sometimes?
Reflecting on the School Year
This school year has been a roller coaster. It's not just the course content but knowing I'm over halfway done with my degree. It feels like I just got here, but the finish line is visible. Part of me will miss the student lifestyle, but I won't miss midterms and finals.
Dinner and Movie Time
The day isn't over yet. Dinner is rice with beef stir fry. Now, it's time to go to the movies by myself. It might seem weird, but I have a friend who goes to concerts alone, so I'm trying to get the hang of it.
Mini Movie Review: Seagrass
I watched Seagrass, a movie that came out last year and won awards at TIFF. It was unsettling in a good way. It wasn't a scary movie, more of a drama, but it was so tense. I was stressed the whole time, but it was good. I'm not great at reviewing movies because every time I watch one, it becomes my favorite until I watch another. But this one was definitely worth watching.
Wrapping Up
After my long day, I'm home, ready to shower, unwind, and start getting ready for bed. Throughout this video, I've shown some features of the Ultrahuman Ring Air, like its circadian rhythm tracking, caffeine intake suggestions, and sleep tracking abilities. There are many more features, but I didn't want to bombard you. If you're interested, check out the link in the description and use my affiliate code SPRU for a discount.
If you've made it this far, thank you so much for watching. I've wanted to make this video for a while, so a genuine thank you for motivating me to go out and do fun things. Remember, everything online is not always as it seems—this isn't my daily life, but thank you for being a part of it.
