Rediscovering My Hobbies: A Summer Reflection
The Summer Conundrum
When I'm cramming through exams or trudging through the school year, all I can think about are the things I want to do when summer finally arrives. I dream of redecorating my apartment, cleaning out my closet, playing music, diving back into my hobbies, making videos, reading books, working to make money, hanging out with friends, cooking, and working out.
But when summer comes, I often lose all motivation to do any of these things, despite longing for the free time. It's like waiting all year for your birthday, only to forget what you wanted when people ask.
Spending Time with Loved Ones
Lately, I've been spending a lot of time with friends and loved ones, which doesn't feel like an effort. After a year of studying alone, catching up with people has been refreshing. However, it can be tiring because I'm pretty introverted.
Solo Hobbies vs. Social Interaction
Many of my hobbies are solitary activities—making and editing videos, playing music, making art, playing video games, and going to the gym. I think I've been avoiding them because I'm tired of spending so much time alone. Spending time alone is a good skill to have, but it's easier to do nothing by yourself. When you're with others, you feel the need to do something to avoid boredom.
Making Hobbies Social
I've been considering how to make my hobbies more social. For example, I could read in a café or start a reading group with friends. Making videos or music with others could be more fun and motivating. Even activities like embroidering or dyeing clothes could be done with a friend or in a group setting.
Finding New Hobbies
I also realized that many hobbies can be more enjoyable when shared with others. For instance, I used to work out consistently with a friend, and now that our schedules don't align, I've lost interest. It's not about showing off, but having someone to share the experience with makes a big difference.
Cost-Effective Socializing
Hanging out with friends doesn't always have to mean spending money. We can read books, play music, create art, cook new recipes, or work out together without breaking the bank. Spending quality time with friends doing activities can be just as fulfilling as going out and spending money.
Entertaining Myself
When I'm with friends, I care about them being entertained, but when I'm alone, I don't put in the same effort. I think I should start caring more about entertaining myself. Finding joy in solo activities is important, but it's also okay to seek out new hobbies that involve other people.
Tackling the Hobby Slump
I'm going to try to tackle this hobby slump by involving others. Whether it's fitness classes, book clubs, or creative projects, doing things with friends can help me stay committed and enjoy the process more.
Wrapping Up
This has been a bit of a ramble, but I wanted to share my thoughts as they come. It's like a little FaceTime call or a short podcast update. Overall, I'm having fun, but I want to commit to these hobbies and passion projects that interest me. Summer is the perfect time to work on these things.
I've been hesitant to make another YouTube video because it's a solo hobby, but getting my thoughts out through a voice memo feels like the first step. Even if it's not a polished video, putting something out there is progress.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in the next one. Bye!
